Each lesson includes phonics instruction and games, independent reading practice, comprehension-building discussions and reading enrichment activities. Parents attend the first half of each class to learn how to support their child's reading development at home. The teacher will individually assess your child and provide you with guidance for selecting books at the right level for your child throughout first grade.
Students reinforce what they have learned in class during four sessions of home practice. This practice consists of independent reading with assistance from parents and short assignments in the phonics program, Pole and Vole and the Magic Bag. The practice is well structured and enjoyable, with easy-to-follow instructions.
The maximum class size is eighteen students. The class size allows for your child to receive personal attention from the teacher, while also participating in lively group discussions and activities.
Class instruction and program materials meet the needs of a wide range of students. The teacher provides individualized support and guidance based on your child's skill level and needs.
